The Editing Process
Along with the Contact Form, please complete the Introduction Consultation Questionnaire. This will further help me determine whether I am the right editor for you.
Some Questions Include:
What genre is your manuscript?
Are you seeking to publish your manuscript? If yes, how? (Traditional, Self-publishing, Hybrid)
Have you worked with a professional editor before? If yes, what kind of professional editor?
How long have you been working on the manuscript? Do you feel like it’s complete?
Are there any books/games/movies similar to your manuscript? In what ways is it similar?
Striving for Transparency
Once I have determined that I am the right editor for you, the editing process generally goes like this:
The Intro Consultation: We will narrow down what we should focus on in the edit and get to know each other better.
The Proposal: I will summarize the task you gave me and explain the time and total cost required to complete it.
The official edit will begin after we have agreed on the approach to your manuscript, you’ve signed the contract summarizing the service I am providing you, and you have paid the Initial Fee, which is essentially half of the total cost.
The Cold Read: For an Editorial Assessment Kindling Report, I will carefully read your manuscript with little note-taking to enjoy the story for what it is. For the Ember Reader Review and Ash & Quill Query Letters, I will read your manuscript and take notes at this stage.
Note: While I am editing your manuscript, please do not touch any part of the piece! It will complicate things.
Second Read: I will reread the manuscript with marginal notes. In the case of Ember Reader Review and Ash & Quill Query Letters, I will skip this part and go into the editorial letter. For Ash & Quill Query Letters, if you have a specific publisher or literary agent you’re trying to reach, I will research them.
Editorial Note: I will compile all my notes and expand on them in a letter that should help you revise, or, in the case of Query Letters, should showcase why your manuscript should be published.
I will strive to do it by the agreed-upon due date or earlier, but sometimes life gets in the way. If that happens, I will, of course, let you know, and you can decide whether to continue the service.
When I am done, I will take a screenshot of part of my work as proof of completion and send you another link to pay the remaining fee. When I receive your payment, I will send you my work.
Outro Consultation: Lastly, once you have the editorial letter, please read it and take time to understand where these notes come from over a few days to a week. After that, we can discuss any unanswered questions and consider what to do going forward.
***Note: Silent Wing Storycraft Ghostwriting and Flightpath Writing Coaching will look different as these services could be more collaborative. We should discuss our schedule during the Proposal and Intro Consultation.
